One of the many gifts the road has sent my way is a friendship with an inspiring woman named Carlyn Shaw. We were introduced through an equally inspiring woman, Shanti, whom I met on my road trip in Boise, Idaho. Although Carlyn and I have yet to meet in person, through social media, e-mails and a phone call or two, I feel we’ve known each other for years. In addition to her infectious positive spirit, she has made it her mission in life to Turn Strangers Into Friends because, as she says, a journey of friendship begins with two strangers.
A few weeks ago Carlyn posted a quote by naturalist Terence McKenna on my Facebook page. It sums up so much of what the road has taught me over the past two years. That is, it takes just one committed step in a new direction for the Universe to get the message that we are ready for change. The Universe is always waiting for that message, she’s rooting for us to take a step forward so she can do her part and pave the road ahead of us.  It’s a brilliant partnership of sorts. You and the Universe. So take a deep breath, take that first step forward, and trust that the road will be underfoot each step of the way.
“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.† –Terence McKenna
